There are a wide choice of beaches nearby: the large sandy beaches of Torre del Mar and Rincon de la Victoria, the pretty coves of Nerja, the quiet undeveloped beaches of Benajarafe and the lovely coves of El Palo to where the Malagueňos escape the city. Indeed sassy and sophisticated Malaga City, the birthplace of Picasso and contender to be European City of Culture in 2016 is approximately a half hour drive away. This truly is the real Spain, a fascinating cultural holiday destination, and a million miles from the tourist ghetto that is the Costa del Sol.
