I am a non-white Australian, visiting Sofia. I was booked at the Best Western Hotel which was just around there. I was dressed extremely well and neat and got there around 1am on Saturday 19th. When I got there, I took out my entrance fee to pay, only to be told, that tonight is a reserved night. I looked at the guy quite shocked. I guess it's a more polite way of saying: non-whites not allowed.

I feel sometimes that us gay people want equal rights and want to be treated like our straight counter-parts, yet we are the ones that are intolerant to people that are different. I guess that the mindset of this establishment will remain fixated on practises that would strengthen a socialist regime rather than a free and liberal one.

Having said that, I spoke to someone that was there on Friday night and was quite shocked about the behaviour of their staff and told me that he will inform the manager. I will like to see how the manager deals with complaints.

Are there other people out there that had such an experience?

Club Why Not does exist, not listed here but Gay Bulgaria has details (although impossible to leave a comment as security does not work on Safari, IE or Firefox!). We found Why Not better, although (typically) very loud and expensive. Mostly full of tourists on the Friday 17/8/12 from midnight when we visited. Empty when we arrived at 23:30. NIce aquariums though!

I tried to send the following post but failed on my iPod. I am back in London now and see I am not alone in my experience:
We 4 have just arrived from London. We have only hand luggage so no expensive clothes. It took us a long time to find the bar (18 Vitosha) because there was no free wifi working (vivacom is bad) and we had to return to hotel to check details twice. We found ClubID (turned out to be down a side street behind the specified address) and a tall blond queen in demim shorts told us we were not dressed properly. I asked how we should dress and he just looked at us up and down and repeated the statement! Not usefull! We only have a few clothes. Tonight we go to old style Adonis and they will have our money! Then we go to Istanbul where they may be less arrogant! Please wrote 'Dress Code Applies' in the description so more people can avoid the club and not spend their money there!

I tried to use the club on Tuesday 28th August. Sorry it didn't live up to all the Hype. One of the sites got the address wrong had it listed as on Vistosha Bul which it isn't. Also says it opens at 9pm it didn't more like 12:15AM.
I walked in at 10:oopm to be told sorry closed open at 12:00am!

So I returned then 12:15ish it started to open so much for 9pm. Then I went to the dorr got stopped by security sorry we have a dress code! Bearing in mind the staff weren't wearing any shorsts behind the bar evryone one else were wearing shorts well the other four customers sitting outside waiting to go in. The problem my sandels it was the height of Summer!
Come on guys sort it potentially it looks like ot could be a good venue if it aint a rip off!?
How can a club with a back room have a dress code also I came with the intention of attending the club ti be kept waiting hours eventually to give up.
A long way to go yet Sofia its appeared there was some arrogance there too. But next time I will try again with shoes as a regular tarveller to Sofia. BUT please get your opening times sorted.

My experience with this club is very bad. I was denied entry on Dec/31/2010 and jan/01/2011, supposedly because of "dress code violation", but I think it's personal. I visited many clubs all over the world but was never denied entry, therefore it can't be all my fault. Other people were also dressed regular like me. Some disgusting fag guy (very feminine) screens the customers and probably doesn't like me. This club ruined my vacation completely because there are no alternatives in Sofia. All other places were completely empty on those two days or already shutdown.
